Djokovic has not competed in a match since he was crowned champion at Wimbledon almost two and a half months ago. He made his comeback during the Laver Cup, which took place in London. However, the Serb has been experiencing discomfort in his wrist for the past few days, two months before the ATP Finals.
Novak Djokovic has stated that he was limited by a wrist ailment when competing in the Laver Cup in London and that his extended absence from the circuit recently could be the source of the problem.
After winning his 21st Grand Slam singles championship at Wimbledon in early July, Djokovic competed for the first time in a competition at the O2 Arena in London. The tournament lasted for three days.
The 35-year-old player, who was unable to participate in the North American hard-court tour or the US Open because he had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, returned to the tour on Saturday and won both of his singles and doubles matches. His performance was nothing short of spectacular.
On the final day of the race, though, he was defeated by a competitor from Canada named Felix Auger-Aliassime.
“To tell you the truth, I’ve spent the better part of the last week dealing with issues related to my right wrist. Djokovic told the reporters, “I was able to keep it under control.”
“It’s likely that the two games from yesterday had some kind of impact. The day’s events were not simple. The speed with which I was able to serve, as well as the accuracy of my work, fell short of my expectations. It had an impact on the whole game “.
Djokovic has stated that achieving qualification for the ATP Finals in Turin, which will take place in November, is still his primary objective. He will compete in a tournament in Tel Aviv this week, another competition in Kazakhstan the following week, and then the Paris Masters at the end of October.
Because of his triumph at Wimbledon, he has been assured a spot in the championship match of the circuit as long as he is ranked in the top 20 in the world.
Djokovic, who is now ranked seventh, suggested that the problem with his wrist could be caused by several different things.
It’s possible that I haven’t competed in a game in about three months, and the conditions here are such that the balls are extremely large and slow, but he did say that.
“It’s possible that the pain I felt was because you still need to generate a lot of wrist action and speed.
