When is the Tokyo 2021 Olympics and why were they postponed?

tokyo

The 2020 was a difficult year in every way. We live something that came to change our lives forever. The pandemic affected millions of people and the number of those affected continues to rise.

THIS IS HOW WE HAVE LIVED AUSTRALIA VS. TOKYO 2021 OLYMPIC GAMES SPAIN HERE

In the sports field, the bad news did not wait. All activities had to stop for months, including the cancellation of the Olympic Games that were to be held in TokIo , Japan , an event expected around the world.

THE SOCCER TEAMS CLASSIFIED TO THE OLYMPICS

The International Olympic Committee ( IOC ) went to great lengths to prevent all the plans made for TokIo 2020 from being thrown overboard. Everything was a failure when seeing the delicate situation in which the planet was.

Finally, it was decided to throw in the towel, but after several months of anguish and bad news, the outbreak of hope finally arrived and it seems that for this 2021 there will be an Olympic fair.

Next, in Goal , we tell you the details of the resolution:

WHY WERE THE OLYMPIC GAMES POSTPONED?

Because the health crisis due to COVID-19  did not subside in all of 2020, the decision was made to postpone the games. Of course, proximity to the date had to do with it. If it had been at the end of the year, perhaps the decision would not have been made.

The priority of almost the entire planet began to focus on vaccinating the majority of its population, to generate herd immunity. After that, the idea is to return to normality as before. The plan is already underway, thousands of people already have their dose but millions more are still needed. As the authorities mentioned at the beginning, mass events, and in this case sports events, will be relegated to a second term until things improve.

Only the inoculation of people will cause the rates of infection to fall and, thus, the number of registered deaths. The mutations of the new strains, including the English, South African and Brazilian, generate a higher incidence, so it is urgent to expand production.

WHEN ARE THE OLYMPIC GAMES?

According to the schedule of the IOC, and if no modification, the new date raised for the ceremony of  inauguration of the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 (Tokyo or 2021) will be next Friday, July 23 . The fair will last two weeks, therefore the  closing is scheduled for Sunday, August 8 .

Then the next Olympic Games are in Paris 2024 . This is the XXXIII edition that will take place from  July 26 to August 11 of that year.

Along with London, England , this will be the second time that the same city has organized the Games three times, after those held in  1900  and  1924 . Therefore, they will mark the centenary of the last made in the French capital.

Paris was made official during the 130th Session of the Olympic Committee in  Lima, Peru , on July 31, 2017 . By then, the health emergency is expected to be a thing of the past.

WILL BE DONE WITHOUT FOREIGN FANS

The organizers of the Olympic Games announced that the sporting event will take place without the presence of foreign fans, this being one of the preventive measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tamayo Marukawa, Japanese minister in charge of the Olympic Games, announced the decision after the meeting with the presidents of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee: ” At today’s meeting it has been decided to abandon the option of receiving foreign visitors “.

In the same way, the president of the Organizing Committee of the Games, Seiko Hashimoto assured that the decision “will help to guarantee a safe Olympic Games for all athletes and other participants, and also for the Japanese people .”
