Bayern decides to select an alternative, while Juventus and Arsenal are entangled in the first leg of the Champions League.
On Tuesday, Bayern Munich made it part of the way in the first leg of the Women’s Champions League by winning away at Real Sociedad (1-0) while Juventus Turin and Arsenal both suffered draws against HB Koge (1-1) and Ajax Amsterdam respectively (2-2).
Lea Schüller’s goal in the 45th minute, just before halftime, gave Bayern, a semi-finalist in 2021, the opportunity to win the match on the field of Real Sociedad.
In their match against the Danish club HB Koge, five-time Italian champions Juventus were unable to do more than a 1-1 draw. Juventus is still building its reputation on the European stage. After Maddie Pokorny scored the first goal for the United States, Italy’s defender Amanda Nilden tied the game with a header in the 21st minute (8th). If Pauline Peyraud-Magnin and her teammates want to advance to the group stage, they will need to play better in the second encounter, which will take place on Wednesday.
In their stadium, Arsenal was defeated by Ajax Amsterdam by a score of 2-2. The teenage Romée Leuchter scored a goal in the 18th minute, which caught the English off guard. However, Stina Blackstenius quickly responded to the setback (23rd). Kim Little scored a penalty kick for the Londoners in the 57th minute, giving them the lead; however, Leuchter scored again, bringing the score even between the two teams (83rd).
After beating Rangers in Glasgow by a score of 3-2 in the evening’s last match, the Portuguese players for Benfica have reason to anticipate that they will advance to the next round. Ana Vitoria was particularly instrumental in this victory, scoring twice.
