Juliana Velásquez wins the Latin Grammy for best new artist

Juliana-Velasquez

Velásquez beat out Giulia Be, María Becerra, Bizarrap, Boza, Zoe Gotusso, Humbe, Rita Indiana, Lasso, Paloma Mam and Marco Mares in this prestigious category.

The young Colombian began her speech of thanks by singing a cappella some verses from her song “Joaquín”.

Very excited, Velásquez explained that this song was composed inspired by a fisherman from her country who “went to work and did not return.”

The singer dedicated the award to Colombia and to all the people she has “come across on the way”, something that allowed her to create and tell stories with her music.

The 22nd edition of the Latin Grammy is being celebrated this Thursday with a ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in the city of the game.

This is the first face-to-face edition of the Latin Recording Academy party since the pandemic began.

In 2020, the Latin Grammy had to be celebrated with a virtual act to avoid the coronavirus, but this year they bet on a great musical show and a red carpet with a multitude of Hispanic and Latin music artists.
