Diners at the Cannes restaurant La Guérite were taken aback when Elton John played a snippet of the upcoming tune that he co-wrote and would release with Britney Spears titled “Hold Me Closer.”
John’s Instagram page provided a Livestream of the singer entering a restaurant where there was a DJ booth, welcoming the DJs, and then requesting that they play the tune. After John introduced the song using a cordless microphone, he began singing his sections over the top of the existing track.

The chorus from John’s 1971 smash single “Tiny Dancer” is sampled in the song “Hold Me Closer,” which gives the song its name and hints at the use of this sample. In addition to that, there is a sample taken from his song “The One,” which was released as the main track on his album in 1992. This remix of John’s back repertoire is quite similar to the format utilized on ‘Cold Heart,’ which was his 2021 Number One song and included Dua Lipa and PNAU, as observed by Variety.
As the first official single to feature Spears since the end of her conservatorship the previous year, ‘Hold Me Closer’ will also be the first song to feature Spears. Her most recent single was released in 2020 and was titled “Matches.” It was a duet with the Backstreet Boys and was included on the deluxe reissue of her album “Glory,” which was released in 2016.
John is presently on the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which resumed after being postponed in 2020 due to the epidemic, and will now see John touring again until at least 2023. The tour was originally canceled in 2020 because of the virus.
