Ariana DeBose wins Best Supporting Actress at Screen Actors Guild Awards

Ariana-DeBose

Hispanic Ariana DeBose wins the award for best supporting actress at the twenty-eighth edition of the Screen Actors Guild Awards ( SAG Awards , in English) thanks to her performance in “West Side Story” .

DeBose, who plays Anita in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” was up against Caitriona Balfe (“Belfast”) , Cate Blanchett (“Nightmare Alley”) , Kirsten Dunst (“The power of the dog”) and Ruth Negga (“Passing”) in the category of best secondary performer of these awards.

At the award ceremony held this Sunday in person in Los Angeles, the singer and dancer was also grateful to her co-stars and to director Steven Spielberg himself.

Likewise, DeBose defined the film as evidence of the “triumph of love” and a “beautiful cinematic experience”.

The adaptation of the famous 1957 musical that triumphed in the controversial edition of the 2022 Golden Globes has also earned Ariana DeBose tonight to get the recognition for best supporting actress.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards are usually a good thermometer in the race for the Oscars, which this year also nominated Ariana DeBose in the category of best supporting actor for “West Side Story” .

In addition, although with little chance of winning the statuette according to critics, the film is also in the list of ten nominees for best film for the Oscars.

For his part, Steven Spielberg is running with this production for the recognition of best director at the Hollywood Academy Awards.

We will have to wait until the appointment on March 27 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles to find out if the Oscars also individually or jointly recognize the talent of the Hispanic Ariana Debose or the production directed by Steven Spielberg.
