This rock legend welcomes you to his 73 years with the release of a song, whose downloads will be free for 24 hours. The song will be part of the album “Detroit Stories”.
The legendary Alice Cooper celebrates her birthday with the release this Thursday, February 4, of “Social Debris” from her upcoming studio album “Detroit Stories”. For this occasion, he has decided to offer the single as a free download for 24 hours on his website.
“The single ‘Social Debris’ is a gift to Detroit, to my fans and to me,” says Alice Cooper. The song was written by the original Alice Cooper band.
“We never thought we would ever fit in; Alice Cooper’s band didn’t fit in with anybody, because we were doing things that no other band did. We didn’t fit in with the folk scene, we didn’t fit in with the metal scene, we didn’t really fit in with anything that was going on at the time. We always feel like strangers. We felt that we were social waste, we were in our own little world. So it was just the original band writing a song about us, essentially. And it came out sounding like it belonged to 1971. This is the original band, you can’t change that, it’s great, ”Cooper says.
“Los Angeles had its sound with The Doors, Love and Buffalo Springfield,” he says. “San Francisco had the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. New York had The Rascals and The Velvet Underground. But Detroit was the birthplace of hard rock, furious rock. After not fitting in anywhere in the United States (musically or in terms of image), Detroit was the only place that recognized Alice Cooper’s guitar-driven hard rock sound and our insane stage show. Detroit was a haven for the outcast. And when they found out I was born there, in East Detroit … We were at home.
Half a century later, Alice and Ezrin have teamed up in Detroit with their friends to record “Detroit Stories,” Cooper’s new album.
