In an attempt to achieve the long-awaited “herd immunity” and “once and for all” roll back the pandemic, Mayor Eric Adams announced that New York City will relaunch the $100 incentive for those who get vaccinated against COVID-19.

New Yorkers who receive their first dose or booster dose have the opportunity to claim the $100 by visiting one of the city-run centers, the SOMOS Community Care community physician network, or a Health + Hospitals site.

This initiative will be available until February 28 and people who receive their prepaid card will be able to redeem it until March 31, 2022.

“The more we are protected against COVID-19, the faster we can overcome this pandemic. For anyone thinking about getting vaccinated or boosted, now is the time! Protect yourself and those around you and earn some money while doing it,” said Eric Adams.

The mayor also invited people to spend that money on small businesses that have tried to stay on their feet during the pandemic, and are the backbone for many communities.

Since this initiative was launched in July 2021 during the administration of former Mayor Bill de Blasio, the vaccination percentage has increased by 25% and more than 800,000 cards have been delivered.

In addition, the city is analyzing the possibility of relaunching this type of initiative should the need arise.

According to data provided by the city, 77% of the incentives distributed have gone to New Yorkers of color and tens of millions have been reinvested in local businesses, supermarkets, restaurants, warehouses, and transportation.

Health Commissioner Dr. Dave A. Chokshi assured that the vaccine remains “the best tool we have to prevent suffering due to COVID-19. If you haven’t had your first dose or booster dose yet, there’s no better time than now!” he expressed.

Authorities urge anyone who has not received their first dose or their booster shot if eligible, to protect their family and community.
