Sixty million Americans will be able to get a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine, as announced this Friday by President Joe Biden, who pointed out that twenty million can now access that dose because it has been six months since they received the immunization.
In a speech at the White House, Biden noted that this is the number of people who can access the third dose of Pfizer among those 65 and older, vulnerable adults with diseases such as diabetes or obesity, and workers who are at higher risk, such as health workers, teachers or employees of grocery stores.
Biden, who announced that the third dose will be given as soon as possible, insisted on asking Americans who have not yet been vaccinated to do so as soon as possible.
The US government has gone beyond the recommendation made by experts from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and advisers from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), by including among those who can access the third dose to workers with jobs considered risky.
In his speech , the president assured that the decisions made respond at all times have followed the recommendation of scientists and the medical community.
He also stressed that while the experts were studying this decision, the Government has prepared and bought enough doses, and stressed that there are 80,000 locations throughout the country to administer the reinforcement.
The booster dose that has been approved for certain groups is for the Pfizer vaccine, but not for the other two that can be administered in the United States -Moderna and Johnson & Johnson-.
To those who received the vaccines from these last two pharmaceutical companies, Biden wanted to send a message of reassurance by assuring them that they still enjoy “a high degree of protection” against covid-19.
And before those who may be considering receiving a booster dose even if they are not in the defined groups this Friday, Biden asked them to “wait their turn” and also wait for the reports on other groups and other vaccines to conclude.
The American president did not forget to send a message to the millions of citizens of the country who still do not want to be vaccinated.
Thus, although he considered that “incredible progress” has been made as there are already 182 million people fully vaccinated, this is still the “pandemic of the unvaccinated.”
At this point he harshly criticized the political leaders who have promoted that people do not get vaccinated.
And he warned that there is a quarter of the population susceptible to being vaccinated that has not done so. And that 25% percent minority “can do a lot of damage . “
He also asked all the reluctants not to listen to him, but to listen to the thousands of unvaccinated people who have contracted the disease, have ended up in hospitals and have then recommended the injection.
” Don’t let this become your tragedy, get vaccinated, ” Biden insisted.
